Kate Ryan is a popular Belgian singer who began playing the guitar and piano as young as 8 years old. Although her aunt gave her vocal lessons as a child, Kate Ryan studied at an art school with a specialization in jewelry design. As a teenager, Ryan played in local bars and cafés. One night, the club manager approached the 16-year-old Kate and asked her to record a song in the studio. She then became a part of the pop group Melt and performed on local venues in the next two years, but failed to release any singles or albums commercially.

When Kate Ryan met producer Andy Janssens, she left the pop group and began writing music with Janssens. In July 2001, the duo released their debut single “Scream for More” under Robbins Entertainment, but it was only until Kate Ryan covered the Mylene Farmer song “Désenchantée” that gave her a much-deserved break. After singing with EMI Belgium, Kate Ryan released her 2002 debut album “Different,” which earned gold certification after selling 250,000 copies in Europe alone.

In 2004, Kate Ryan released her second album “Stronger” in Europe and the US with hits such as “The Rain” and “Another Day.” In 2006, Kate Ryan joined the Eurosong and won a chance to represent Belgium at the Eurovision, where she sang “Je t'adore,” but only ranked #12. That same year, Ryan released her third album “Alive” with the title track as the first single.

In 2008, Kate covered the Desireless song “Voyage Voyage,” releasing it with the song “We All Belong,” which was chosen as the official song for the 2007 Eurogames in Antwerp. After releasing the first two singles “Ella, Elle L'a” and “L.I.L.Y. (Like I Love You)” in early 2008, Kate Ryan released her fourth album “Free,” which featured the Spanish singer Soraya Arnelas. She then released her first compilation album entitled “Essential.” In August of 2008, Ryan joined the Polish Sopot Hit Festival.

Since 2002, Kate Ryan has been collecting nominations and awards from several organizations. She has won four Steve Music Awards, two TMF Awards, an International Shipout Award, an Esctoday.com Award, a Radio Donna Award and a Radio 2 Zomerhit Award. Kate Ryan has also won the prestigious World Music Award for “The Best Selling Benelux Artist” in 2008.
